Congrats to my sister Jenny for giving birth to a baby boy, Gregory, around 4am this morning. That makes me... Uncle Dunc! I wonder what kind of uncle I'll turn out to be? A kind, caring uncle, a reclusive uncle, or perhaps (most likely) a deranged eccentric uncle? Who knows? Who really cares?!
Anyway, since my last (and it was meant to be the last) blog post, not a lot has happened. I joined the Glasgow Uni gym (graduate membership - weekday access for £22/month). I joined mainly for the swimming pool and the sauna/steam room. I've been a couple of times and it has made a lot of difference and does ease the stress somewhat. By chance, lots of curvy girls in swimming costumes go there too! What a coincidence! My main motivation for going is of course to get some exercise - nothing at all to do with gorgeous curvy girls in swimming costumes.
Moving on, I've been up to little else apart from working and travelling. I've been alternating between train and bus each week, for some variety, but I can't help feeling totally fed up with it. Although I have become used to it to an extent, I would still much rather live closer to East Kilbride - Christ I must've covered at least 10,000 miles in the past month!! My plan is to move into a new flat at the beginning of March. Until then I'll just have to make the most of the current flat. Despite the new flatmate, the flat is still generally quiet. It's a testament to how big the place is if 5 people can live there and the place still seems empty. Before I move out, I want to watch Series 2 of cult 90's drama
This Life, which is on VHS. I've already seen Series 1, along with
Queer As Folk, another entertaining series from the 90's about, well, a bunch of queers (that meant in the nicest, most PC, possible way). I've also been watching Peter Kay's
Phoenix Nights (a comedy gem). Musically, I've been listening to
Life in Slow Motion by David Gray, Frank Black's
Teenager of the Year, and
Here Come the Tears, by The Tears. The Tears were formed by Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler, formerly of Suede. Although I feel there's a couple of mediocre tracks on the album, as a whole it is very good, full of upbeat, catchy pop songs, and a couple of ballads.
Until I move out, I'll just endure the travel, and try and go to the gym 3 times a week. That way I'll be Fitter. Happier. More productive. Hopefully! Work itself is fine. It's been getting better, in fact, since I've become more involved in the main projects. I find I.T. a bit like an album which takes several listens to get into, but once you do, it's much more satisfying. It's so easy to get stressed when you don't understand something, but once you learn and can understand and, in particular, put your knowledge into practice, it can be very satisfying. I guess in an ideal world I'd be a film director, music producer, or writer, but for now, there is a sense of financial security, and doing something which I enjoy (most of the time).
